It has been quite a year, to say the least, and amidst the economic and social complexities we have dealt with since March, we have seen the power of technology as it brought us closer together, even though at times we have never been further apart.
As the world was told to stand still, we as consumers chose not to. With the support of innovative technology and service solutions, we have adapted to a new, more convenient reality – cue the rise of ordering anything to our doorsteps. The trend of making purchases at the click of a button is no longer segmented to the likes of electronics and clothing, but to almost anything the heart desires.
Careem, the everyday Super App, simplifies the lives of its 33 million registered users across the region, and with over 40 percent of Careem’s customers in UAE using the “Order Anything” delivery service since its launch in February 2020. Careem foresaw the growing demand from consumers to, as the name states, order anything for pick up and delivery, as well as the Captains being able to shop for essentials on the consumer’s behalf. Since its launch, the Careem Captains have been keeping the communities safe and assisting us to buy and receive our most needed items, with the service shifting consumers behaviours on delivery. So what are people ordering?
The “Order Anything” service has seen chicken and frozen chicken as the most ordered item, ice cream being the second and forgotten packages as a close third. Weirdly enough, the “Order Anything” service has also seen consumers requesting a few more “unique” items, including a crochet hook and stuffed animals from the desk in the office, showing just about anything can be ordered and delivered to the convenience of you doorstop these days.
Order Anything is a clear illustration of just how quickly change can occur in the development of tech services, with adaptation being the key to their survival. Technology is our new shopping window for the modern age. And now we have had a taste of what is possible, the figures forecast that our shopping habits and expectations have been changed forever.
