Ibn Battuta Mall is getting creative this August, with part of Egypt Court being transformed into a fusion of historic and contemporary art.
Visitors to the world’s largest themed mall can watch live as award-winning artist Shahul Hameed paints a 230 square metre mural which, when complete, will reflect Middle Eastern and Oriental art through a dramatic combination of shapes and colours.
Located opposite the Decathlon store at Egypt Court, the live mural, staged in collaboration with Dubai-based ZeeArts, can be seen coming to life every day during mall operational hours between now and Sunday, 16 August. It is one of a host of events and attractions at Ibn Battuta this DSS.
Michael Beverley, General Manager, Ibn Battuta Mall, said: “We are very excited to present this beautiful artistic attraction at Ibn Battuta Mall. Just like the mall, the mural reflects and combines history, culture and tradition – a perfect fit and an excellent way to recognise and celebrate the UAE’s artistic talent.”
Shahul Hameed, who has won awards in the UAE for his work at various locations across the country, describes art as an important pillar in his life. In his words, “mural painting provides the leeway to think and work big, capturing the emotions of a moment, story or experience in a way that the audiences can savour the same”.
Zaahirah Muthy, curator of ZeeArts Gallery, added: “Dubai is a city where dream come true and more than 200 nationalities coexist in harmony. This new creation at Ibn Battuta will take customers on a journey of culture and vision, reflecting an overall theme of Connecting, Creativity and Collaboration.”
